Commissions, Freelance Art and Participatory Projects

Artist for The National Maritime Museum - Documenting Deptford Project, part of the Endeavour Programme, 2016-17
The project is formed of 3 study days, delivered by Ben Weddell from the National Maritime. For each study day I have designed a creative response.
The project is working towards a 3D gallery outcome that will be presented in the new Tudor and Stuarts Seafarers Gallery due to open in 2018. From the work produced with pupils I will fabricate an object that will communicate what the pupils would like to relay about their understanding of Deptford's place in history and as well as communicating something of their lives in Deptford now.

frame as part of Open Open, Swiss Cottage Gallery, Camden, August 2015 I ran a series of workshops, using the concept from frame to engage visitors to the gallery in drawing and looking. Open Open is an open call exhbition which allows amateurs and professionals to bring work along and hang it. In response to this the drawings that were made by participants over the exhibition were projected on to a wall in the gallery and traced in place, creating a collaborative artwork which grew throughout the exhibition.

frame. August 2014

Arts Council England Grant for the Arts - Community Unification Project

I received funding to realise my participatory project frame at the 2014 Hackney WickED Arts Festival, London. frame is a project which began by developing the concept of using my own artistic practice as a tool to engage with others. A large structure consisting of frames in various sizes was constructed to provide viewfinders for the surrounding area of Hackney Wick. Various drawing methods were available to the public, the most popular was the provision of an individual framing device through which the paricipant could trace the landscape directly on to acetate, acting like a manual camera the frame had a perspex centre which supported the acetate and drawing. This project has been a catalyst to my practice and research in the time since.

Commission for Sing London, October 2013 I was commissioned to make a museum object that would describe the importance of the ball-bearing which was displayed in the educational exhibition The Travelling Museum of British Invention.

Hospitalfield Interdisciplinary Residency, August 2015 I was selected for this residency from an application which cited my ambition to consolidate ideas I have been developing over the previous two years, examining links between my educaitonal work, participatory projects and studio practice. The residency itself is aimed at those working across the arts and designed to develop dialogue with others through shared studio spaces, mealtimes and living together in the spectacular arts and crafts building that is Hospitalfield House.I used the time to write about develpoments in my practise, it was an amazing opportunity through which I obtained a level of concentration that I have not achieved before and am keen to hold on to.
